Our People
Meet Our Board
The passionate individuals leading the effort to support the animals of La Porte.
I grew to love volunteering at the animal shelter once I retired. It is my happy place . With the formation of FLPAS I hope to continue to support the city of LP animal shelter in caring for animals by helping to provide for their needs. I also have two Rescue dogs.
I began volunteering at the La Porte Animal Shelter to give back, inspired by the SPCA commercials that stayed with me. While I couldn’t contribute financially, I could give my time. What started as a simple act of service became something much more meaningful. In truth, I needed the shelter far more than the animals needed me, and that realization continues to guide my commitment to serving them and our community.
Growing up, I always had dogs-sometimes one, sometimes two or three at a time. Being surrounded by them helped shape my deep love for animals, not just dogs but all animals.
They've always been a big part of my life, and I've seen firsthand how much care, attention, and compassion they need to thrive. Creating the SHELTER nonprofit is a way for me to turn that lifelong passion into action.
The organization will help provide support for important needs like surgeries, medical care, extra supplies, and many other resources that animals and shelters often struggle to afford. My goal is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of animals by giving them the care and support they deserve.
For over 25 years, volunteering with dogs rescues has been a passion for me. In 2018, I started volunteering with the City Of La Porte Animal Shelter to help animals closer to my home. In 2023, I retired from a 32 year nursing career, which has enabled me to volunteer more regularly at the La Porte Animal Shelter. I especially enjoy and appreciate the educational opportunities, such as the Playing for Life training, and Animal CPR training, that Mitch Turner-Beasley has made available to the volunteers. I help run dog play groups at our shelter. These play groups help us to evaluate the play style of the dogs, socialize the dogs, learn more about their personalities, and also gives the dogs a much needed break from their kennels.
I currently serve on two other non-profit boards, one of which I am a founding member. When I learned of the formation of this group, I volunteered since I have knowledge of the formation of non-profit groups, and serving as a board member. I'm looking forward to helping to provide funds to cover needs of our homeless La Porte animals. We want them to have the BEST possible care and BEST chance at a wonderful life.
